Municipalities demand halt to wind power ‘exploitation’ in Ontario

Public declaration demands cancellation of wind power procurement, and re-focus of energy policy by the Wynne government

The Ontario Multi Municipal Group has issued a public declaration stating it wants the “exploitation” of rural Ontario by the wind power industry, aided by the Ontario government, to end.
“The implementation and expansion of renewable energy (industrial-scale wind turbines and large solar power projects) has developed to the point that it has caused hydro costs to increase, caused a division between rural and urban municipalities, and caused the citizens of Ontario to lose faith in democracy,” says Ron Higgins, Mayor of North Frontenac, in the document.
The municipal group was formed at the last meeting of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) after 115 municipalities, or 25 percent of all municipalities in Ontario, passed resolutions demanding that municipalities get final say in the siting of renewable power projects.
“We are now speaking out on behalf of all those communities,” Higgins says.

Rights of communities ‘neutralized’

The Green Energy Act of 2009 removed the right to carry out local land-use planning for power projects –the Multi Municipal Group says that’s wrong. “It neutralizes the rights of residents of rural Ontario to advocate for, rely on and claim the benefit of sound land-use planning principles,” Higgins says. “It amounts to a form of discrimination.”
In the public declaration document, the group lists the impact of Ontario’s wind power program, saying it has not brought the economic benefits promised by the McGuinty government and in fact has resulted in an economic burden and energy poverty. They also say that no environmental benefit has been demonstrated and that “the natural world is suffering” because of large-scale turbines which are disrupting the natural environment and harming wildlife such as migratory birds and endangered species of bats.

Wind power a ‘false hope’ for the environment

Wind power has created “false hope” of steps to be taken to combat climate change and protect the environment, says the Multi Municipal Group. And, the Government of Ontario has ignored knowledge of the negative impacts of invasive wind power technology.
The group demands that all procurement of wind power be stopped, and the Green Energy Act repealed. They also recommend that the government base future policies on generation capacity and conservation, and use current energy supply assets.
“Our rural communities are unprotected against the exploitation [by] renewable energy,” Higgins concludes. The municipalities have no choice but to declare their position to the government and the public formally.

“It amounts to a form of discrimination.” Thank you for saying that so clearly Mayor Higgins!
Obviously the people who are responsible for this travesty of justice do not believe in equal rights for all in Ontario. Obviously, the people who are aware that innocent people have been and are being harmed by these turbines that were placed too close to their homes, and who choose to remain silent, do not believe in equal rights for rural residents and are complicit in this violation.

It should be noted that once once you eliminate urban municipalities who have no chance of seeing IWTs, and rural municipalities that are unlikely to see wind development because of location or logistics, the proportional representation by the 115 members, or 25% of the overall number of municipalities in Ontario, is particularly decisive and significant.
The Ontario Multi Municipal Group, led by Mayor Higgins, has taken the
bull by the horns on this issue, and for that we thank them.

Huron East needs to come off the list- they moved to a willing host designation and took the Briberancy fund despite the objections of its citizens just before Christmas. Disgusting Mayor Bernie McLellan and Councillor Joe Steffler (the latter of which sits on the Huron County Board of Health – the Health Unit that is going to conduct a health investigation) have been strong supporters of wind and salivating at the thought of getting money from the developers. They use the ‘they are here anyway argument’. Nothing more than Pigs at the trough.

In 2010 I moved out of my home of many years because of illness as a result of exposure to infrasound-low frequency noise emitted from 18 industrial wind turbines built within a 3 km radius of my home. This was a development of CEO Mike Crawley who was an office administrator for Dalton McGuinty at Queen’s Park, who since moved on to position of president of federal liberal party..after of course, collecting millions of our tax dollars in the form of government subsidies for building these machines that are nothing but garbage/killing machines. This is BLOOD money.
Don’t believe infra sound causes harm to human health? Google Wind Turbines and Health: An examination of a proposed case definition McMurtry RY, Krogh CM-Noise Health.
The government has been aware of this problem for DECADES.
The Canadian Bill of Rights passed in 1960 was the first human rights law in Canada. It guarantees my basic rights and freedoms, including the “right of the individual to life, liberty, security of the person and enjoyment of property; and the right not to be deprived of any of these rights.
Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms Act 1982 takes priority over all other legislation in Canada because it is part of the “supreme law of Canada”.
90 townships and counties in Ontario have passed a specific resolution saying they are NOT “willing host communities” for wind turbines.
JUSTIN TRUDEAU is in LONDON ON tomorrow FRIDAY the 13th for an open meeting at CARLING HEIGHTS community Center, to hear the concerns of the people of Ontario.
EVERY non willing host community should be there. Bring your signs and megaphones.
Doors open at 6:30pm; Trudeau is to be there at 6:56.
Possibility of change of venue…”to accommodate crowd of 1000 people” (to avoid negative press no doubt.)
We need a presence, we need to be heard.
I am asking of your support; just as you would ask of mine in a class action law suit.
Watch for the entourage of black shiny SUVs, with police escort (because of non violent protest..dough heads.)This is the Liberal style…early arrival entrance via side door!!
I expect questions and comments will be written and juried. Nevertheless, we will be heard!
    Be prepared; dress warm.
I was once asked to leave the gallery at Queen’s Park. I no longer will walk away. I would appreciate your support, thank you.
