IESO stuns with final approval of contested wind farm

Hundreds marched in Picton on October 15th. Clearly a critical issue in the election campaign–so why did the IESO issue final approval during the election? (Photo Wind Concerns Ontario]

June 26, 2018
Community members in Prince Edward County were shocked to learn this past weekend that Ontario’s Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) had granted the final approval required for the “White Pines” wind power project.
The IESO apparently gave the project final Notice To Proceed. Projects without a Notice To Proceed or NTP can still be cancelled.
Worse, the NTP was given apparently on May 11, which was four days after the writ for the 2018 election was drawn up.
It is accepted practice that in the immediate election period, certainly after the writ has been released, the sitting government does not make major announcements or take important decisions.
Especially on a subject like the White Pines power project which is involved in two separate legal actions currently, and was certainly a major issue in the local election campaign.
It is also arguable whether the Renewable Energy Approval for the 100-megawatt “Nation Rise” wind power project, announced days before the writ, is acceptable.
Certainly, there are questions to be asked about influence on the IESO and the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change to take these actions when they must have known they were outside accepted practice.

Ask yourself – what intent does this action depict?
Someone trying to last minute pad either their packets, or that of someone they are indebted to.
I suspect an investigation is warranted.

Can the new government cancel this contract after June 29th when they start to govern. For the people in Prince Edward County I sure hope so.

Just read in the latest Scientific American: ” Did we assess the weather and climate variability when we were thinking about building those wind farms ? No . Do we assess it now? No. Does it have an impact on the system and its ability to manage lots of wind? Absolutely. A huge amount. The same story is repeated across the US. Heading for a train wreck.”
    No comment needed.
We should strongly remind Mr. Ford about his election promises.
Same stupid enthusiastic and naïve thinking about this “clean” energy without reality check.

Industrial Wind turbines are intermittent, unreliable, non-dispatchable, unpredictable and require gas plants for back up. The end game is the destruction of our reliable energy system. Handed over to the rentseekers that influenve our politically elected representatives.

Why would CPP be investing in these projects? Why are Canadians not talking about this?

A (hopefully last) desperate attempt for one more corrupt money grab from the Ontario taxpayer.

This was one of the initial projects as well as a few others that was almost on the chopping block in 2013. http://www.tomadamsenergy.com/2013/05/06/foi-reveals-ontario-govt-reviewing-options-to-downsize-wind-development/
I question what warranted the McGuinty/Wynne liberals decision to allow this to proceed. How many Force Majeures were claimed and allowed, to be so far past their Milestone Commercial Operation date? Northland Power Inc submitted 12 FM’s for the McLean’s Mountain Wind LP project on Manitoulin yet only four were allowed. They were charged a penalty for being over their Milestone Commercial Operation Date by 107 days yet the project continued forward. The 107 days would have been larger should one of the FM’s had not been revisited by the OPA as it seems more time was granted in NPI’s claim against the MNR. A big savings for the proponent which may have allowed them to proceed. Bottom line is the Liberals pushed these projects through no matter the amount of flaws the proponent has even in their original submissions. I look back at how many times they changed the legislation through elaws and rules in regards to vacant lots and build permits to eliminate any opposition to turbines going next to your vacant lot fence line with minimal setback. The proponent even gets to decide where your receptor is located on vacant land for the noise study which is for me across beaver flooded road allowance. I bet Northland Power Inc chuckles over that one while they bring in their 50% share of yearly 10 million EBIDTA as per their webcast and another 10 million for their partners I expect. All for unreliable generation that is far removed from any industry that would require i and great cost to the ratepayer at 15 cents per KWH. $150 per MGW. The MMWLP project approval, the White Pines approval, as well as others should be revoked for many reasons.

Will Ford address known health impacts of Industrial Wind Turbines? In particular, will he ask Erica Clark, Huron County Health Unit, when the on going health investigation will report to the public?
By the way, my contact with Huron County and others involved is documented on my web page,

Wow everyone good points and all so true.
Any investment capital movement creates receivables and payables for the brokerage and the lawyers and the salesman and the, etc, etc. CPP administration will also be allowed their turn to financially rape the taxpayer.
Tomorrow, Friday June 29 2018, the newly elected Premier of Ontario will be sworn in. Kathleen Wynne will be in her glory if the predicted hot weather covers Ottawa on the long July 1st weekend and causes overloads or brown outs on the electrical grid that did not get upgraded because the money went to the wind turbines first under the Liberal, “Green Energy Act”.
There is nothing the new Ontario Premier can do for this holiday weekend.
Perhaps it was planned, perhaps not, but for sure a coincidence.
Sometimes the hot weather causes still conditions with no air movement. The turbines will then add to the drain on the grid with the processors and clearance lights and cooling fans.
Now that would be the ultimate stab in the back of the Ontario electrical ratepayers!
    I say again,
“THIS IS GOING TO GET INTERESTING”.

This one is for the record!
    July 1st 2018, 32°C, 86% humidity, humidex 46°C
    Bright sunny slight breeze WNW
Electrical grid demand at midday, 18,640 MW
All 5 solar farms contributing 310MW
All 41 wind farms contributing 349MW
The wind farms are contributing *1.8%
For easy calculations, let’s use only 400 as the number of industrial wind turbines in the 41 connected wind farms. Simple math *.0045%
At any time about 10% are being repaired or inspected or simply don’t work. I won’t get into costs, just add another zero and wow *.00045%
The only way to make IWT’S seem viable as energy producers is to fudge the numbers and bury the facts. Any jobs created simply add to the overall operating costs and loses per KWH, the more they make the more we lose.
Together, let’s figure a way out of this!
