With just 39 days until the Ontario municipal election on October 26 (advance polls before that date), all-candidates meetings are occurring NOW across the province.
This is your opportunity to get wind power proposals into the election conversation, and learn what candidate positions are.
Step up! In many cases you can submit written questions ahead of time, or you can show up at a community meeting and take your turn at the microphone. Don’t be shy: your fellow citizens may be glad you stepped up and asked the question(s).
Consider this:
With Ontario’s energy minister himself describing wind power as “Part-time power” incapable of running Ontario’s economy, and with many agricultural organizations concerned about the loss of farmland to industrial power projects, and the Ontario experience with expensive, noisy wind turbines such that 159 municipalities are now Unwilling Hosts to new wind turbine projects, what is your view on wind turbines, and how would you approach any proposals that might come forward?
Remember, the Unwilling Host declaration is not part of the IESO process, so wind power developers are perfectly free to approach Councils and ask for approval of their individual project —so this question is important everywhere.
If you have a few minutes, watch this clip from the recent Chatham-Kent mayor candidate election discussion. Not one candidate is in favour of new wind power projects, even the former mayor who oversaw approvals for many of C-K’s 500 turbines. See also the answer to the ridiculous statement that “people can do what they want on their own land.” NO, they can’t.
