The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) plans to launched a new RFP for 2,000 megawatts of new resources in 2024. The difference now is that municipal support is required for contracts, and municipalities now have the power to create zoning bylaws to control where power installations are sited.
The IESO announcement in December 2023 stated that they may be looking at contract extensions for existing facilities.
